A Day in life of India

Recently Times of India started  contest  for every Indian to capture  in their inimitable style. Shoot a photo or video, draw a cartoon or just tell  a joke, on anything  one feel makes India, India.

The day of the contest was March 15, 2011.  

One could submit entry  for the following categories -

(I)            Videos;

(II)           Photos;

(III)         Cartoons;

(IV)         Jokes & Anecdotes

For videos, photos and cartoons one could tag contents in the following themes

Overloaded India

Typical scenes of over-usage of capacities of all kinds - man as well as machine. e.g. – Family of 7 on scooter, Coolies, Overloaded City Bus/Auto/Cycle/ Rickshaws/Train/ Trucks

 Asli India

The reality that is India, the bharat that is not shining. e.g. – slums, beggars on road, the homeless, street children playing

Incredible India

The beauty, heritage and medley of colour that is India. e.g. – Monuments, fares and festivals, colourful dresses, wildilfe, nature, mountains, beaches

Chalta Hai India

Tolerance for everything, ‘if it doesn’t affect me I don’t care’ attitude e.g. – Dumping garbage on roads, marriage tents on colony roads, urinating in public, babus playing cards at work, cops asleep on the job

Golmaal India

Bribery, ‘settings’, all kinds of underhand nexus, cutting corners, goli-baazi and hanky-panky. e.g. – Corrupt cops, phony red light cars, touts and their fixes, fake brand, magic remedies.

Jugaad India

All about innovative fixes, enterprising street mechanics and business ideas, bending/ bypassing of rules e.g. – Harley engine autos, Washing machine to make lassi, things falling in place last minute in a shaadi or public function

Chaotic  India

Complete absence of order and systems in our daily life e.g. – no lane driving, buses stopping anywhere, hordes of people on top of a train, cattle on roads, chaotic

Bizzare India

Strange customs, rituals and superstitions; crazily mis-spelt signboards e.g. – Sadhu walking on fire, Idols drinking milk, witch doctor doing jhaad-phoonk, sign saying ‘child beer’, truck back panel saying “10 , 13, 9, ki hai”

Cricket crazy iNDIA

A Day in the Life of India joins cricket crazy India to look at the lighter side of our passion for cricket. Face-painted fans, crazy slogan banners, unique traits of players on the field or the peculiarities of gully cricket. Capture the obsessive spirit

Refrigerator Magnets

One fine day I thought I need to have organizer or in other words “Things to remember” which should be in front of my eyes.  So which is the best place where you can have things to remember list.  How about in kitchen sticking on the refrigerator.  What I needed was Refrigerator magnet.  

Refrigerator magnets can be used to hold reminders, or be a reminder in themselves. A refrigerator magnet is an ornament, often whimsical, attached to a small magnet which is used to post items such as shopping list or birthday list on a refrigerator, or which simply serves as decoration.

I had small magnets with me, from the old magnetic chess games. So thought of creating my own refrigerator magnets.

I used two ways of creating the same.

I used 3D glitters for decorations. I just love glitters; one can do anything with them.   My favourite is the golden colored and blue coloured, which one is yours.

Flower Photography

Hi! Friends, it’s been sometime that I have updated my blog. Not that I was busy with something great, but I did do some new crafty work, which will share with you guys very soon. Also I was a little bored of my blog template and at the same time was not ready to let go my old template. The breath of the template was too narrow, so was not able to do much.  So eventually I decided to change the template.  I still need to work more on this template and organize my gadgets.  But I thought I will get myself going with my new template and the modification can take place later. Sometimes starting without perfection works better than waiting till it is perfect and realizing that it is outdated. You know what I mean… 

So now what to post.  Since I have used a very flowery template, why not post NATURE. Have recently joined this group Walk the Mumbai Trees who select a locality & walk around it giving information about the trees present there.   Captured the nature on my mobile.

Recycling with Glass bottles

Lot of people liked the bottles that I recycled. Now I was motivated to do something different and came up another idea. Took me just 10 minutes to create this.

I used rangoli colours (colored sand) and came up with this….

Day of Decoupage

When I was kid I have seen my mom never used to throw away those bits and pieces of cloth that were left over from whatever she used to stitch. There was time I really used to get irritated with those junk materials.  But to my surprise she always used to come out with some creative ideas to use those so called JUNK in such a way that everyone used to like it. Now me like my mom don’t throw away lots of JUNK material, you never know when you can come with any creative idea to make those Junk material in to some masterpiece….

So I have saved some chocolate boxes, small cardboard boxes. One can recycle and alter them into cute Jewel boxes, Pen holder, Flower vase…. Recycling not only saves money, but it also keeps our environment friendlier.

For Decoupage project, one can use magazine clippings, stamps or a combination of paper elements that harmonize in color or theme.

I have used the magazine cuttings from ELLE DÉCOR which had real classy pictures.  

I just loved the way it came out, and I had lots of more paper cuttings, so I decided to do another piece

Warli Paining

Warli Paintings are indigenous of Maharashtra. The word “Warli” come from the word “warla” which means the piece of land. Warli is the name of the biggest tribe found on the Northern outskirts of Mumbai.

Warli Paintings tradition of stretching goes back to 2500 or 3000 BC. Warli paintings are extremely rudimentary wall paintings. They use a very basic graphic vocabulary like a circle, a triangle and a square. 

Earlier Warli painting used to be etched out on walls of Warli houses, but nowadays, they are being painted on paper, vases, mugs, bedsheets, apparel too. This art is pretty popular all over India and the world as well. Simple and aesthetic in appeal.

Quilling

I would like to take this opportunity to extend a special Thank You to everyone who has stopped by to check out the postings over the year.

I have come across lots of beautiful quilling designs on net/ exhibitions etc and every time I used to think this is a very difficult craft and takes lots of time. One day finally on insistence of my mother I picked up the quilling materials from Hobby Idea.  I started working on the quilling project. To my surprise I found the quilling was not at all difficult as I thought. It needs lots of patience and good imagination.

Since being my first try on the craft, I have used very simple design and very less colours. Used only 2-3 colours. I have used recycled CD. Glued the handmade paper on the CD and used it as the base.
